Terms of Service
Effective October 30, 2026 · Last updated October 30, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Realm 8 ("Realm 8", "we", "us") for your use of Estra: the estra.cloud website, the dashboard, the Estra API, the backends we host for you, Estra Mail and Estra Push (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service for an organization, you agree for it and confirm you have the authority to do so; "you" then means that organization.
1. Eligibility and your account
- You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract.
- Give us accurate account information and keep your email address current: it's how you sign in and how we reach you.
- You're responsible for everything done with your account and your projects' keys. Keep service keys secret and out of client apps, rotate a key you think was exposed, and tell us at hello@estra.cloud about any unauthorized use.
2. The Service, and the beta
- Estra Cloud is in a free beta. Features, limits and interfaces may change, and some may be removed. We may limit the number of projects, requests, storage, emails or notifications per account or project.
- We work to keep the Service available and your data safe, but during the beta there is no service level agreement or guaranteed uptime. Keep your own backups of data you can't afford to lose; your service key can read all of a project's data, for example with the Estra admin library.
- If we introduce fees, we'll tell you at least 30 days in advance, and you can stop using the Service before they apply.
- The Estra client libraries and tools published on npm are licensed separately under their own open source licenses (currently MIT). These Terms cover the hosted Service.
3. Your content
- You keep all rights to the data, files, schemas, rules, messages and other material you or your app's users put into the Service ("Customer Content").
- You give Realm 8 a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, copy, process, transmit and display Customer Content only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service for you, and as the law requires.
- You're responsible for Customer Content and for your app: that you have the rights to it, that your app gives its users a privacy policy and the notices and choices the law requires, and that you have a lawful basis to collect and process their information through the Service.
- We process your app's users' personal information on your behalf, as described in our Privacy Policy. If you need a data processing agreement, contact us.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use the Service, or let your app or its users use it, to:
- break the law, or infringe or misappropriate anyone's rights, including intellectual property and privacy rights;
- store or send content that sexually exploits children, promotes violence or terrorism, harasses people, or is fraudulent or deceptive, including phishing;
- send spam or unsolicited bulk email, or email people who haven't agreed to hear from you;
- distribute malware, or probe, scan, attack or disrupt the Service, other customers or anyone else's systems;
- get around limits, quotas, sending pauses or security measures, or access another customer's projects or data;
- resell or provide the Service to third parties as a stand-alone hosting service without our written permission;
- run systems where a failure could lead to death, personal injury or severe environmental damage.
5. Email and push notifications
- Send email only from domains you control and verify, and only to recipients who have a relationship with you or agreed to hear from you. Include an unsubscribe option in marketing email and honor it promptly. Follow anti-spam laws such as CAN-SPAM, CASL and the GDPR.
- Each project has a daily sending limit. We may pause sending automatically when bounce or complaint rates are high, and keep addresses that bounce or complain from receiving more email.
- Push notifications are delivered through Apple's and Google's services; you must follow their rules, and you're responsible for the credentials you give us for them.
6. Third-party services
- The Service works with services we don't control, such as Google, Apple, GitHub and Firebase. Your use of them is governed by their terms, and we aren't responsible for them.
- Estra's shared Google sign-in. You may let your app's users sign in with Google through a Google client operated by Estra, so Google's sign-in screen names Estra rather than your app. It's meant for development and trying things out. You must use it in line with Google's policies, and we may change, limit or withdraw it, for example if a project's use puts it at risk. For a production app, register your own Google client.
7. Suspension
We may suspend or limit your access to all or part of the Service if we reasonably believe you are breaching these Terms, your use creates a security, legal or operational risk to the Service or others, or the law requires it. Where we can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem, and we'll restore access once it's resolved.
8. Ending the agreement
- You can stop using the Service and delete your projects at any time from the dashboard. Deleting a project permanently removes its backend and data.
- We may end these Terms or stop offering the Service, or the free beta, with at least 30 days' notice, during which you can export your data. We may end them immediately if you materially breach them or the law requires it.
- When these Terms end, your right to use the Service stops, and we delete Customer Content as described in the Privacy Policy. Sections 3 (the last two points), 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 survive.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, Realm 8 disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that data will not be lost.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Realm 8 will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from or related to these Terms or the Service, even if advised of the possibility. Realm 8's total liability for all claims arising from or related to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose and US $100.
Some jurisdictions don't allow some of these exclusions or limits, so they may not all apply to you.
11. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Realm 8 against third-party claims, and the resulting losses, damages and reasonable costs, arising from Customer Content, your app, or your breach of these Terms or the law.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the place where Realm 8 is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, each side agrees to try to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days by contacting the other. Nothing here limits rights you have under the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We'll post the new version here and update the date above, and if a change is material we'll tell you by email or in the dashboard at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless it's needed sooner for legal or security reasons. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, the new Terms apply; if you don't agree, stop using the Service.
14. General
- These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Realm 8 about the Service.
- If a provision can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect. Not enforcing a provision isn't a waiver of it.
- You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, or to an affiliate.
- Neither side is responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond its reasonable control.
- We send notices to your account email or show them in the dashboard; send yours to hello@estra.cloud.
